Major new 1GW data centre proposed for WA, with cable links connecting Australia to South-East Asia

The proposed Project Meridien would be built in the Kimberley, around 100km south of Broome.

The project is planned at up to 1GW of data centre capacity, making it one of the largest proposed facilities in Australia.

It would be supported by large-scale renewable energy and designed for high-density AI and cloud workloads.

A new fibre connection is also planned to link the site into Western Australia’s wider digital network.

From there, the project could connect into existing international cable routes linking Australia with South-East Asia.

The development is being positioned as a major new digital infrastructure hub for northern Western Australia.
