Sydney is emerging as a world leading centre for quantum computing:-
1. Sydney Has Made Quantum Computers More Reliable: University of Sydney researchers working with IBM lifted logical qubit survival from below 90% to over 96% per error correction cycle on IBM's 156 qubit Heron processor.
2. A Sydney Company Is Tackling Quantum’s Biggest Scaling Challenge:
Silicon Quantum Computing published a processor in Nature achieving fidelities up to 99.99%, demonstrating high precision control as its silicon quantum architecture scales.
3. Two Of DARPA’s Eleven Finalists Are From Sydney:
Elecen companies have advanced to Stage B of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, assessing pathways to useful quantum computing at scale by 2033. Silicon Quantum Computing and Diraq are both among them.
4. Washington Is Backing Sydney Silicon:
UNSW spinout Diraq signed a letter of intent in May for up to US$38 million from the US Department of Commerce to scale its silicon quantum processors.
5. Sydney Research Is Already Inside IBM's Roadmap:
University of Sydney physicist Dr Dominic Williamson developed a new approach to quantum error correction while on placement at IBM, and elements of it now feed into IBM's plans for large scale machines.
6. The Next Generation Is Being Built In Sydney:
The ARC Training Centre for Future Leaders in Quantum Computing launched at the University of Sydney in June, alongside the Sydney Quantum Academy connecting four of the city's major universities.
